Tip: What’s the most effective thing to do at a conference?
Surprisingly it’s what you do before the conference that will set you up for success.
- If you’ve attended this conference previously look through the contacts you made and reach out to see if they are attending this year. Book a breakfast or drink to catch up at the conference.
- Set time aside to study the conference program in advance. It can make the difference on how effective the conference is for you. During your review ask yourself: should you attend sessions because of the topic, or the speaker, or the type of people who are going to be in the audience? Are there social events where you might need dressier, or sportier clothes? Are there free evenings and should you be planning to put your own group together to go out?
- Make sure your LinkedIn page looks good and is up-to-date. People will see your name badge and check you out.
- Order more business cards. You can use this new iPhone feature to exchange contact information but a business card is still ‘your brand in your hand’.
