POTTSTOWN BEGINS COMMUNITY BIKE SHARE PROGRAM
POTTSTOWN, PA (June 5, 2008) – Beginning this week Bike Pottstown, the region’s first community bike share program, has been made available for the public to use. Available at Tri-County Bicycles, located at 248 High Street, Bike Pottstown is providing 20 bikes for the community to use free of charge. The bikes, single speed cruiser bikes, have a distinct yellow color, and are intended to be used throughout the community and on the Schuylkill River Trail. Checking a bike out is easy; just leave your license while you ride.
Bike Pottstown is the first program of its kind in the greater Philadelphia region. Biking is rapidly becoming a favorite pastime activity for Americans. Bike Pottstown helps to promote bicycling by allowing people to use bikes free of charge. By granting the community use of the bikes, Bike Pottstown will increase the number of cyclists, and help inspire healthy lifestyle choices.
Bike Pottstown has been a collaborative effort, and has been made possible by a grant from the Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, with contributions from the Pottstown Police Officers Association, Exelon Limerick Generating Plant, and Blast From the Past Street Rods. The program is the result of a bicycling infrastructure study completed by GVF Transportation. The bikes were provided by Fuji Bikes. Bikes are available Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The bikes are not available on Sundays.
