President's Welcome

Dear Chamber Members,

Over the past month I have been meeting with various business and community leaders throughout the TriCounty area to gauge the business climate in today’s economic environment and to begin to chart the program of work for the chamber in 2008/2009.  Some industries are bracing for reduction while others are trying to chart their growth and expansion in the next six to twelve months.  Businesses, as well as consumers, are more fiscally conservative than they were nine month ago.

In my opinion now is the time to invest in your business’ future. Yes, the stock market is down compared to a year ago but the trend line continues to grow for the long term. With the recent Fed reductions, interest rates to borrow are extremely low.  Invest in what?

Now is the time for all businesses to review and invest in their business plans. Here at the Chamber, we are bracing for changes knowing that our business model needs to reflect today’s perceived economy. I have conducted staff interviews and we will have several strategic planning meetings to develop a new program of work. A presentation will be made to the Board of Directors for their review and approval. Through this process we will identify what our capital projects will need to be as well as human resources for our growth. This planning process is critical for the staff so they understand their roles and goals in order to achieve the needs for a successful organization in today’s conservative environment.

Now is the time for all business to invest in their employees. This is an opportune time to for you to review the educational needs of your staff and plan for training. Throughout the TriCounty area, there are several organizations that offer certification, on going education and advance technical skills.  Boost your workforces’ confidence and commitment to the company by providing these educational opportunities. Prepare them for the growth and diversification of your company needs.

Now is the time to invest in your business infrastructure.  With the review of your business plan and an assessment of your staffing needs, there are now opportunities to upgrade your facility, purchase/ lease new equipment or even purchase a new site for future expansion. In today’s economy this maybe the hardest step but if all the planning has been done correctly this one will have the highest dividend in your future.

As we progress through these interesting economic times, I encourage you to participate in the Chamber.  We are here to serve and help the business community of the TriCounty Area grow and prosper. We provide opportunities for business advocacy, networking and promotions. We can be a resource for you to find your next business partnership. Now is the time to invest.

Be seen. Be heard. Belong.
