We can assure you that the Tri-County Area is proud of its superior educational facilities and curriculum, which offer a variety of quality learning opportunities in modern public and private school settings. Eight public school districts serve this area: Boyertown, Daniel Boone, Owen J. Roberts, Perkiomen Valley, Pottstown, Pottsgrove, Spring-Ford, and Upper Perkiomen Valley. The focus is on the student as an individual with distinct abilities, needs, and goals. Each school system offers programs which prepare students for post-secondary training, college, careers, and life. In addition to the academic curriculum, the schools offer opportunities for participating in drama, music, and fine arts, as well as complete sports programs for boys and girls. Vocational technical programs are offered at Pottstown Senior High School. Students in other school districts take these courses at the Western Center for Technical Studies, Northern Chester County or Berks County Career and Technology Centers.
There are two preparatory schools in the Tri-County Area. One is The Hill School, a world renowned private college preparatory school for boys and girls in grades 9 through 12 and post-high school, located in Pottstown. Founded in 1851, The Hill School has many distinguished alumni. Hill School alumni have become leaders in business, politics, military, and entertainment fields. Day students are accepted. The Perkiomen School, founded in 1875, is located in Pennsburg. This coed school accepts both day and boarding students from 8th through 12th grades. There is also a post-graduate program.
There are several Catholic elementary schools in the area. A Catholic high school, St. Pius X, is located in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Pottstown. Pine Forge Academy is sponsored by the Seventh Day Adventist Church and is located in Pine Forge. The Academy offers quality education to a predominantly African-American enrollment. The West-Mont Christian Academy and Coventry Christian School are located in North Coventry Township.
The Wyndcroft School, founded in 1918, is a private elementary day school in Pottstown. The school serves boys and girls from pre-kindergarten to 8th grade. The school features small classes and individual attention, with the focus on the basic fundamentals of English, arithmetic, and reading. Our schools are always ready to meet the complex demands of education and community growth.
Brookeside Montessori School and the Goddard School of Sanatoga offer preschool, pre-kindergarten, and kindergarten programs.
The TCACC Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2001. This educational, arts, and economic development foundation supports Leadership Tri-County, and a restricted EIO (Education Improvement Organization) Fund for K-12 vocational, career development programs for public school students in our member school districts. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania designated our Foundation as an EIO.
Colleges and Universities
Students that plan to pursue higher education can find excellent opportunities within a 25 mile radius of Pottstown.
- Albright College, located on an 80-acre campus east of Reading in Berks County, is a privately supported co-educational institution, tracing its origin to 1856. The college offers an excellent 4-year academic program in liberal arts, as well as innovative programs beyond the baccalaureate degree.
- Alvernia College is located in Reading and is proud of its tradition as a small, Catholic college striving to prepare students for professional, spiritual, and social growth. The College offers graduate studies in three areas; education, business and liberal studies.
- Montgomery County Community College is a publicly supported junior college located in Blue Bell. It offers associate degrees and transfer programs. The western campus is located in the borough of Pottstown.
- Penn State University is recognized nationwide as one of the finest educational institutions. There are 22 campuses throughout Pennsylvania, including a satellite campus in Reading and also Great Valley/Malvern.
- Ursinus College, in nearby Collegeville, was founded in 1869 by the German Reformed Church. This is a privately supported co-educational liberal arts college open to students of all races and religions. Ursinus has a 4-year degree program offering a broad academic program with several major fields of study. The college offers evening classes to members of the community.
- West Chester University is situated in West Chester, Chester County. It is a publicly supported co-educational liberal arts college. The University was founded in 1871 and for many years its program centered on teacher education. Its current status is that of a state university.
